What is piriformis syndrome?

Piriformis syndrome, also called pyramidal syndrome is a contracture, a thickening and hypertrophy of the piriformis muscle. It is located in the right buttock near the sciatic nerve. If Piriformis syndrome, piriformis just irritate the sciatic nerve and showed a pain in the buttock that can go down to the leg or foot up. Piriformis syndrome is often confused with sciatica since pain is almost similar and it is not always detected. It occurs in runners and in people who are very long sitting.
